Through involvement in these initiatives, you can deepen your understanding of space policy, science and business while building a supportive community of peers.

Georgetown University Space Initiative

The Georgetown University Space Initiative (GUSI) was established in 2019 and offers you a unique opportunity to engage with students interested in space policy, business, and science. Founded in 1972, the Georgetown University Astronomical Society (GUAS) has been charged with operating and preserving the Heyden Observatory, which is the third-oldest college observatory in the United States. After the closure of Georgetown University’s Astronomy Department, GUAS took on the critical role of operating and preserving this historic facility.

As part of GUAS, you can participate in weekly Tuesday observing nights, attend science lectures and join in special observing events, all aimed at inspiring you and increasing space awareness on campus. The society’s primary mission is to advocate for the Heyden Observatory, and they have conducted extensive research on it.
