Evan Barba
Associate Professor, Co-Director: Iteration Lab
The world is awash in increasingly complex problems that do not adhere to disciplinary boundaries. In my research I strive to advance the interdisciplinary knowledge needed to manage this complexity. I employ a systems science worldview to frame and formulate problems, I use design methods to synthesize and communicate solutions to those problems, and I treat computing as a medium for implementing, testing, and deploying those solutions. My goals as a scholar and educator are to develop methodologies that match the problems they are addressing, excavate the latent and lingering issues that prevent the best possible outcomes, and to teach others how to use design methods to break through the inertia of entrenched systemic failures.
