My current research interests focus on utilizing metabolomic and lipidomic analyses through mass spectrometry to evaluate effects of radiation exposure in normal tissue and cancer cells. My radiation research interests include low and high dose and dose rate exposures and effects of radiation quality (photons, neutrons, protons, alpha particles, and high energy particles) on metabolism in easily accessible biofluids and tissues, with particular emphasis on pulmonary, cardiovascular, muscle, and immune effects. Pro-inflammatory responses and perpetuation of such processes with further emphasis on mitochondrial metabolism have shown significant involvement in developing biomarkers for biodosimetry and in space flight related physiological changes.

General areas of interest:

  1. Biodosimetry through small molecules and deployable quantitative assays
  2. Low dose radiation effects and radiotherapy related treatments
  3. Spaceflight and space radiation effects
